Company President

Karen Flanagan McCarthy is president of McCarthy Media Group - although many people still associate her with her career at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a highly respected journalist. Most of her 20 years with the CBC was spent on-air, first as a television reporter, then as a reporter for CBC Radio in Ottawa. Over the course of her broadcasting career, Ms. Flanagan McCarthy interviewed thousands of people, delivering concise, accurate and intriguing reports to both local and national audiences. Her strong background in journalism brings her clients a unique perspective on corporate communications, media relations and crisis communications challenges.

Ms. Flanagan McCarthy left daily news and current affairs in 1997 to establish her successful communications company. She is in high demand as a trainer in occupational health and safety, crisis communications, and media relations. In addition to developing course materials, she has personally provided training to more than 4,000 federal public servants in six provinces and all three territories.

Fluently bilingual, Ms. Flanagan McCarthy is often asked to host and emcee high-profile events. She has been the co-host of the Ottawa Folk Festival's main stage since the festival's inception in 1994.
